This piece continuously plays, and takes its title from, a Frank Sinatra song, Strangers in the Night. While the reality of fleeting love is the theme that triggers the song, the final conquest of a lasting love counteracts this negative idea. The piece, however, reinforces the critical side of the theme, evoking the interior décor of a capitone white nappa leather cabin, open to the viewer, and with the outside of the cabin lined with flashing car lights. If the interior refers to the striptease of peep-show booths, the exterior evokes the cars that drive around at night and the men who occupy them looking for the cheap and occasional love of some woman, absent yet subjugated in this scene.
