Madison is one of the works in the Cement Sculptures series, these are reproductions of classic sculptures popularised by mass-produced statuary used to decorate gardens in Italy. The sculptures, sensual and provocative, are painted - evoking a Disney like colour scheme - then covered with elegant crochet, thus blending, yet again, unexpected connections between high art and folk art, the traditional and the contemporary, a reflection of popular styles and flexible motives, liberated from ancient hierarchies of culture.
