A surprising luminous and kinetic work in the form of a monumental red heart, entirely covered in hand-painted tiles, punctuated by thousands of LED lights. Conceived as part of the T3 Nord tramway's artistic programme for the Porte de Clignancourt, it rotates permanently on its axis at the top of a truncated pole, as if it were a popular light advertisement.
It combines the rich and unique Portuguese tile tradition - the tiles produced and painted by hand in the century-old Portuguese factory Viúva Lamego - and modern LED technology, in the form of a dazzling luminous ceramic heart - loaded with symbolism and iconic power.
The work captures attention through the universality of its shape, colour, light, movement, monumentality and vertical location, standing out and at the same time underlining its surroundings. The thousands of LED lights that fill the rounded shapes of the heart flicker on and off to the rhythm of the heartbeat, offering the public two different readings depending on whether it is seen by day or by night.
