Kit Garden

Located in Largo do Intendente, Kit Garden integrated in Mouraria's renovation project, gives the space a new urban infrastructure. A multifunctional work of art, it simultaneously fulfils the attributes of sculpture, bench and garden. It is composed of a vegetable element, the laurel tree; an architectural element, wrought iron; and a furniture element, the set of wooden benches articulated in a dichotomous logic - inside/outside, full/empty, public/private, offering the possibility of choosing between private and introspective spaces, or social and collective spaces.

The wrought iron railing, which was designed based on the shape of the piece itself, wraps around the vegetal element, as well as the various spaces of permanence created to accommodate people in, giving the piece an enveloping, protective and robust character. The aromatic qualities of the laurel- the vegetable element- add another dimension to the intimacy of the spaces enclosed in the geometry of the sculpture.

The intention of this installation is to equip Largo do Intendente with a new functional element, where the materials used directly and ironically evoke the playful and romantic imagery associated with gardens as a place to escape from the urban environment.
